In a historic push to make India a global cruise tourism hub, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s largest and most advanced cruise terminal in Mumbai this Saturday. The world-class facility, sprawling over 415,000 square feet, is designed to handle up to 1 million passengers annually, setting a new benchmark for Indian maritime infrastructure.

A State-of-the-Art Marvel on the Arabian Sea

Named the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT), the facility is a cornerstone of the government’s ambitious ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ programme. It can simultaneously berth five cruise ships, offering a seamless gateway for both domestic and international travellers.

Inside, the terminal blends luxury with efficiency—wave-patterned ceilings, sea-facing lobbies, and blue-themed seating areas inspired by Mumbai’s coastline. The cutting-edge infrastructure promises a world-class experience for cruise passengers.

Key Features That Redefine Travel

◆72 immigration counters for faster processing

◆Parking for 300 vehicles at once

◆Designed to global standards, making it one of Asia’s leading cruise terminals

◆Developed under the Cruise Bharat Mission, focused on boosting maritime and tourism economies

Boost to India’s Maritime and Tourism Economy
Officials say the project represents an investment of over ₹34,200 crore in Mumbai’s infrastructure development. With this terminal, India hopes to position itself as a major cruise tourism destination, unlocking new opportunities for jobs, hospitality, and ancillary services.

The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal is expected to transform India’s coastline into a preferred stop for luxury liners from around the world—marking a milestone in the country’s journey toward “Viksit Bharat”.
