The Noida International Airport is now just days away from becoming operational. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the mega project on March 28, 2026.
Set to become India’s largest airport, the project stands out not just for its scale but also for being completed in record time, marking a major milestone in the country’s infrastructure journey.
From Site Clearance to Land Acquisition: A Strong Foundation
The project dates back to 2014, when the central government granted site clearance. Environmental approval followed in December 2015, and in-principle approval was granted in 2018.
Land acquisition began in 2019, with over 1,334 hectares secured for Phase 1, and more than 6,700 acres acquired overall. Farmers were compensated and rehabilitated, ensuring smoother execution.
The project is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, significantly accelerating progress.
Record-Speed Construction: A Rare Feat
On November 25, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in Jewar. Civil construction was awarded to Tata Projects in June 2022.
In just 4–5 years, the airport has reached near completion—an exceptional achievement.
Phase 1 includes:
●A 3,900-meter runway
●A 1.38 lakh sq. meter terminal building
●10 aerobridges
●48 check-in counters
●9 immigration counters
●28 aircraft stands
The airport will initially handle 12 million passengers annually, with a test flight already conducted in December 2024.
Regulatory Clearances Completed
The project required approvals from multiple agencies. In early March 2026:
●Security clearance was granted by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)
●The Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued the crucial aerodrome licence
With these approvals, commercial operations can begin within 45 days, clearing the final hurdle.

Inauguration and Operations: A New Era Begins
Post inauguration on March 28, domestic and cargo flights will begin operations. Initially, the airport will connect to 10–12 major cities, with international routes to follow.
●Phase 1 capacity: 1.2 crore passengers annually
●Ultimate capacity: 7 crore passengers with 6 runways
The airport will ease pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and boost Uttar Pradesh’s economy, with an estimated impact of ₹1 lakh crore.
Future Vision: Asia’s Next Aviation Hub
More than just an airport, Noida International Airport represents India’s ambition under “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and “Viksit Bharat”.
With global expertise from Zurich Airport and strong state support, the project sets a new benchmark for speed, scale, and execution.
The first flight from Jewar will not just carry passengers—it will signal a new chapter for NCR and North India’s growth story.
