Commuters and logistics operators across Maharashtra may face serious disruptions as transporters, including private bus and truck operators, have begun an indefinite strike starting Tuesday. United under the banner of “Vahatukdar Bachao Kruti Samiti,” the protesting transporters are raising red flags against what they call “unjust and forceful” e-challan fine collections and other unresolved issues.
The strike is likely to impact goods movement, public transport, and inter-city connectivity across the state.
Key Demands of the Protesters
The transporters have outlined several demands:
-Immediate halt to forced e-challan fine collection
-Waiver of existing traffic penalties
-Withdrawal of the mandatory ‘cleaner’ rule for heavy vehicles
-Revision of no-entry time restrictions in metro cities
Baba Shinde, a prominent transport leader from Pune, voiced the frustration of thousands, stating that transporters are being unfairly penalised under harsh traffic rules without proper consultation or infrastructure support.
Widespread Support Across Maharashtra
The Mumbai Bus Malak Sanghatana (MBMS) confirmed that various transport associations across the state, including those operating buses, mini-trucks, and cargo carriers, have pledged full support to the strike.
“We have been raising these issues for months, but the government has shown no serious intent to resolve them. This strike is our last resort,” an MBMS spokesperson said.
Impact on Daily Life and Economy
With the participation of a wide range of commercial vehicle operators, supply chains and daily travel routines are expected to face bottlenecks, especially in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur. Transporters have urged citizens to support their cause, stressing that the strike is aimed at bringing fairness and sustainability back into the industry.
