A tragic accident at an under-construction residential project in Gurgaon claimed the lives of seven labourers after a sewage treatment plant (STP) wall and surrounding soil collapsed, trapping several workers under debris. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at a construction site of Signature Global in the Sidharawali region.
According to officials, the accident happened around 7 pm on March 9 while workers were carrying out construction work related to the sewage treatment plant.
Workers Buried Under Soil After Sudden Collapse
Police said multiple workers were present at the site when the soil around the STP structure suddenly gave way, causing the wall to collapse and burying several labourers beneath the debris.Teams from the Haryana Police rushed to the location after receiving information about the incident.
A large-scale rescue operation was launched immediately.
NDRF and SDRF Teams Join Overnight Rescue
Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force joined the operation along with local police and district administration officials.The rescue mission continued for several hours and lasted until around 3:30 am, as teams worked through the night to locate and pull out workers trapped under the soil.
All the workers were eventually rescued and taken to nearby hospitals.
Seven Workers Dead, Several Injured
Doctors confirmed that seven labourers died due to the collapse, while four others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
Authorities identified the deceased workers as:
●Shivshankar from Banihara
●Parmeshwar Mehto from Hondai
●Mangal Mehto from Hathi Binda
●Bhagirath Gope from Pohita, Jamshedpur
●Satish from Bharatpur
●Sanjeev Gope from Pohita, Jamshedpur
●Dhananjay Mehto from Hondai, Jharkhand
Most of the victims were migrant labourers working at the construction site.

Investigation Likely into Construction Safety
Officials are expected to investigate the cause of the collapse, including whether safety standards and construction protocols were properly followed at the site.Construction accidents have been a growing concern in rapidly developing urban areas like Gurgaon, where large residential and commercial projects are under development.
Authorities said further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
