In a significant boost to electricity infrastructure, Noida is set to receive nine new power substations by August under the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Officials said the move is part of a larger plan to modernise the city’s power network and ensure reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply as demand continues to grow.
Substations Planned Across Key Sectors
The new 33/11 kV substations are being constructed in multiple sectors, including:
Sector 63
Sector 65
Sector 32
Sector 144
In total, 19 substations are planned under the RDSS project, which will be implemented in phases until 2027.
Capacity of Existing Substations to Increase
Along with new construction, the power department is upgrading 10 existing substations to increase their capacity.
Officials from Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) said:
Currently, substations operate with 20 MVA capacity (2 transformers of 10 MVA each)
After upgrades, capacity will increase to 30 MVA with additional transformers
Superintending engineer Vivek Kumar Patel said the upgrades will help meet future demand and improve supply stability.
Hundreds of Transformers to Be Installed and Upgraded
To strengthen local distribution, the department is also rolling out a large-scale transformer installation plan:
556 new transformers (250 kVA) – plinth work completed
Installations to begin across sectors like 50, 45, 38, 43 and 122
500+ additional transformers to be installed citywide
450 existing transformers to be upgraded from 250 kVA to 400 kVA
These upgrades are expected to significantly reduce overloading and power outages.
Smart Technology and RMUs to Improve Reliability
The project also includes installation of 1,700 Ring Main Units (RMUs), which help maintain power supply even during faults by providing alternate electricity routes.
●475 RMU plinths already ready
●Around 50 units delivered
●Trial installations to begin soon
The RDSS project also incorporates SCADA-based monitoring systems and smart technologies to enhance real-time control and efficiency.

Rs 1,313 Crore Project to Modernise Power Network
In September 2024, the Union Power Ministry approved Rs 1,313.5 crore for Noida under RDSS.
The project focuses on:
●Strengthening distribution infrastructure
●Improving efficiency and reliability
●Integrating smart monitoring systems
●Supporting long-term urban growth
Officials said the initiative will play a crucial role in ensuring stable power supply for residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
