Dr. Navjot Simi, once a practicing dentist, chose a bold path that led her from a career in healthcare to serving the nation as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. Her story reflects determination, clarity of vision, and a drive to create real change in society.

Early Life and Education

Navjot was born on December 21, 1987, in Gurdaspur, Punjab. From an early age, she was known for her discipline and ambition. She pursued Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Baba Jaswant Singh Dental Hospital and Research Institute, Ludhiana.

While dentistry offered a stable and respectable career, Navjot felt a deeper calling—to work at the grassroots level in public service.

Why She Chose UPSC Over Dentistry

Unlike many who settle into their professions, Navjot wanted to push boundaries. She aimed to work for the public beyond the clinic, where she could influence change on a larger scale.

Driven by this goal, she began preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination through self-study and online resources. She managed her time, stayed consistent, and avoided distractions.

In 2017, her hard work paid off. Navjot cracked the UPSC exam in her first attempt, securing 735th rank, which earned her a place in the IPS cadre.

Police Training and First Posting

Navjot Simi underwent training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad. The intensive training shaped her for the realities of policing and prepared her to lead from the front.

Her first posting was as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Bihar. Here, she worked on maintaining law and order and contributed to strengthening community policing.

A Rising Social Media Influence

Navjot Simi is not just known for her policing work—she is also a notable figure on social media, especially Instagram, where she has over 1 million followers.

Her posts cover:

  • Motivational messages for UPSC aspirants
  • Glimpses into her police duties
  • Messages on women empowerment and self-discipline

Her growing popularity online has made her a public figure, especially admired by young women preparing for civil services.

A Partnership Committed to Public Service

Navjot is married to IAS officer Tushar Singla, who secured 86th rank in UPSC 2015 and currently serves as District Magistrate (DM) of Banka, Bihar.

The couple shares a passion for governance, and together they are actively contributing to administrative reforms, law enforcement, and social development in the state.

Current Role and Responsibilities

Navjot Simi now serves as the Superintendent of Police (Weaker Section and Cell) in Bihar. In this role, she focuses on safeguarding the rights of women and marginalized communities.

Her responsibilities include:

  • Addressing crimes against women and vulnerable groups
  • Coordinating with support systems for victim rehabilitation
  • Promoting awareness of legal rights and access to justice

Her work has had a direct impact on improving the safety and dignity of vulnerable populations in Bihar.
