At an age when most children are focused on school and play, 10-year-old Shravan Singh from Punjab’s border village Chak Taran Wali has emerged as a symbol of courage, compassion, and patriotism. Shravan was honoured with the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar 2026, India’s highest civilian award for children, for his selfless service to Indian Army personnel during Operation Sindoor in May 2025.
The prestigious award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, recognising Shravan’s extraordinary contribution during a period of heightened tension along the India–Pakistan border.
Helping Soldiers When It Mattered Most
During Operation Sindoor, when security forces were deployed in forward areas amid volatile border conditions, Shravan stepped up in a way few could imagine. Despite the risks, he regularly travelled to forward posts, carrying essentials such as water, milk, lassi, tea, and ice for soldiers stationed in extreme heat and stressful conditions.
His consistent presence and quiet determination made him a reliable support system for troops who often remained deployed for long hours without basic comforts. Army officials later acknowledged that Shravan’s efforts boosted morale during a challenging operational phase.

Indian Army Takes Responsibility for His Education
Moved by his dedication, the Indian Army formally recognised Shravan’s service and took a life-changing step by sponsoring his entire education. He has been enrolled in a private school, with the Army providing everything—from books and uniforms to school bags and learning materials.
This gesture ensures that Shravan’s future remains secure while honouring his contribution to the nation.
Family’s Emotional Moment of Pride
Shravan’s father, Sona Singh, said the family was overwhelmed when Army officials informed them about the educational support. “We never imagined that our son’s small efforts would receive such recognition,” he said, adding that the family considers it a blessing.
The father also revealed that Shravan is living with diabetes, and the Army has extended medical support and regular monitoring for his condition. Officials have assured continued guidance as Shravan dreams of joining the armed forces one day.
A Young Symbol of Courage and Service
Shravan Singh’s story stands as a powerful reminder that courage knows no age. From a small border village to the national stage, his journey reflects the spirit of service, empathy, and resilience that defines India’s unsung heroes.
