In a major crackdown against food adulteration, the Food Safety Department in Noida has imposed a massive penalty of Rs 3.50 crore on erring food businesses, sending a strong warning to those compromising public health for profit.
The action follows extensive raids, inspections, and laboratory testing, which revealed that several food samples failed to meet prescribed safety standards. The strict enforcement has triggered panic among food business operators across the district.
Special Enforcement Drive Ahead of New Year
With the New Year celebrations in focus, the Food Safety Department conducted a three-day special enforcement drive to ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food for the public. During the operation, surprise inspections were carried out at well-known restaurants, sweet shops, and food establishments across Noida.
Officials collected 30 food samples from different locations and issued notices to 40 food operators for violations of food safety norms.
128 Serious Violations Detected
Food Safety Commissioner Sarvesh Kumar revealed that between April 2024 and November 30, 2024, inspections uncovered 128 serious cases of food adulteration and quality lapses. Legal cases were filed against the offenders, leading to the cumulative penalty of ₹3.50 crore
Adulteration Found in Daily-Use Food Items
Laboratory tests confirmed adulteration in commonly consumed items such as milk, paneer, ghee, and momos chutney. Shockingly, samples collected from reputed and well-established outlets also failed quality checks, proving that adulteration is not limited to small vendors alone.
Zero Tolerance for Public Health Risks
The Food Safety Department made it clear that no compromise will be tolerated when it comes to public health. Officials assured that strict inspections, regular monitoring, and tough punitive action will continue to curb food adulteration and protect consumers.
