Delhi-NCR residents have received a welcome New Year relief as Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) announced a reduction in domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) prices across the region. The city gas distributor has cut PNG rates by ₹0.70 per Standard Cubic Metre (SCM), offering reminder savings to households starting January 1, 2026.
The price cut follows recent changes made by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) in pipeline transportation tariffs, aimed at making gas distribution more affordable and transparent.

Why Have PNG Prices Been Reduced?
The reduction comes after PNGRB introduced a simplified gas pipeline tariff structure, replacing the earlier distance-based multi-slab system. Previously, gas transportation charges increased with distance, directly impacting CNG and PNG prices for consumers.
Under the new framework, pipeline tariffs have been divided into two uniform zones, making gas transportation costs more predictable and economical. The revised tariff system comes into effect from January 1, 2026.
Impact on Households and City Gas Sector
Natural gas is widely used in India for domestic cooking, CNG vehicles, power generation, and fertilizer production. Industry experts believe the revised tariff mechanism will benefit both consumers and city gas distribution companies by ensuring fair pricing and encouraging wider adoption of cleaner fuel.
Earlier, Think Gas had also announced price cuts in CNG and domestic PNG across several states, signaling a broader trend of relief for gas consumers nationwide.
With this move, IGL has kicked off 2026 by easing household fuel costs and reinforcing the government’s push towards cleaner and affordable energy.
