In a significant step towards improving public safety, the Greater Noida Authority has launched a Rs 2 crore project to cover open drains across multiple locations in Greater Noida.
The decision comes in response to frequent accidents caused by exposed drains, where pedestrians, vehicles, and even stray animals like cows and dogs have fallen in.
Open Drains: A Persistent Safety Hazard
Open drains have long been a major concern in the city. Apart from accidents, they also:
●Become dumping spots for garbage
●Create unhygienic conditions
●Pose risks during night and monsoon
Residents have repeatedly raised complaints about these hazards, especially along busy roads and residential stretches.
Work Begins on Priority Stretches
Authorities have already started covering drains along key routes, including the road from Wipro Roundabout towards Sectors 36 and 37.
The project will use pre-cast concrete slabs to cover drains, ensuring durability and long-term safety.
Officials claim that the work will be completed in phases over the next few months.
Focus on Wider and High-Risk Drains
Under the plan, special priority is being given to drains that are:
●More than 2 metres wide
●Located along high-traffic roads
●Near residential and commercial areas
Key stretches identified include:
●Ace Platinum Society to LG Chowk (60m road)
●Makoda Roundabout to Jagat Farm (130m road)
●Jaitpur–Vaishpur Roundabout to Surajpur-Kasna road
●Wipro Roundabout and ITBP Roundabout areas
●Sector 36–37 to Ecotech Extension

Rs 2 Crore Tender Issued for Project
The authority had floated a tender worth Rs 2 crore to execute the project. Officials said the initiative is aimed at reducing accident risks and improving overall civic infrastructure.
Expected Impact on Residents
●Once completed, the project is expected to:
●Reduce accident cases significantly
●Improve cleanliness and waste management
●Enhance road safety for pedestrians and drivers
●Prevent animals from falling into drains
Step Towards Safer Urban Infrastructure
This initiative reflects a broader push by authorities to address long-standing civic issues and make the city safer and more organised.
With rapid urban growth in Greater Noida, such infrastructure upgrades are becoming essential to ensure safe and sustainable living conditions.
