No Prior Heart Problems — Yet Suffered Cardiac Arrest: Rare Case Treated Successfully

In a dramatic turn of events, a 47-year-old man with no prior history of heart disease collapsed at his workplace—only to be saved by a rare and life-saving cardiac procedure at KIMSHEALTH.

The man, whose identity has been kept confidential, suffered a sudden episode of ventricular tachycardia (VT), a dangerous heart rhythm disorder that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest. Colleagues rushed him to a nearby hospital before he was referred to KIMSHEALTH for advanced cardiac care.

A Complex Diagnosis and High-Risk Surgery

At KIMSHEALTH, doctors discovered that his heart’s pumping function had severely deteriorated, though the reason remained unknown. The condition had already begun affecting his kidney and liver function, further complicating treatment.

Dr. Anees Thajudeen, Senior Consultant in Cardiology and Electrophysiology, led the multidisciplinary team that diagnosed and treated the condition using VT mapping and catheter ablation.

“Using electrical mapping, we identified scarred areas in the heart that triggered the irregular rhythm. Once ablated, the abnormal signals stopped,” said Dr. Thajudeen.

Advanced Tech to Prevent Future Cardiac Arrests

To ensure long-term safety, doctors also implanted an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) — a smart device capable of detecting and correcting fatal heart rhythms by delivering controlled electric shocks.

Before this, the patient had suffered multiple cardiac arrests, making the intervention both urgent and complex.

Teamwork at the Heart of Recovery

Dr. Thajudeen emphasized that treating such high-risk patients is not just about cardiac care.

“It’s a team effort. Critical care, nephrology, cardiac surgery, and anaesthesia teams all played vital roles in stabilizing and saving the patient.”

Now on the path to recovery, the patient’s story is a testament to the power of early intervention, cutting-edge technology, and coordinated hospital care.
