Noida Airport Expansion Hit by Illegal Construction; Police Register FIR

In a significant administrative action, an FIR has been registered against a resident of Ahmedpur Choroli village for allegedly carrying out illegal construction on notified land earmarked for the expansion of Noida International Airport. The land falls under the jurisdiction of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and is part of the airport’s second-phase expansion plan.

According to officials, the construction activity was being carried out after the government had already issued a formal land acquisition notification, making any form of buying, selling, or construction strictly illegal without prior approval from the authority. Despite repeated warnings, the accused allegedly continued construction with the intention of securing higher compensation during land acquisition.

Administration Raises Serious Concerns
YEIDA officials stated that the illegal construction not only violates land acquisition laws but also causes significant financial loss to the state exchequer. The Naib Tehsildar of YEIDA, Sanjay Tomar, submitted a written complaint to the Jewar police, highlighting that such activities undermine the credibility of the administration and disrupt the orderly execution of one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
“The land has been officially notified for acquisition. Once the notification is issued, no new construction is allowed under any circumstances. Despite clear instructions, the individual deliberately continued construction for personal financial gain,” the official complaint stated.

Safety Risks and Substandard Construction
Authorities also expressed concern over the use of substandard construction materials at the site, warning that such structures pose serious safety risks. The Rabupura region has already witnessed a recent accident linked to unsafe construction practices, raising alarms about public safety.

Officials added that repeated attempts were made to stop the construction, but the warnings were ignored. This compelled the authority to take legal action.

Police Investigation Underway
Acting on the complaint, Jewar Kotwali Police registered a case and have initiated an investigation. Officials confirmed that further action may follow if more violations are found in the area. The administration has also warned that similar illegal constructions in notified zones will attract strict legal consequences.

Airport Expansion a National Priority
The Noida International Airport is a flagship infrastructure project expected to boost connectivity, investment, and employment in the region. Authorities reiterated that any attempt to misuse the land acquisition process will not be tolerated, as it could delay development and damage public interest.
The district administration has urged residents to comply with land acquisition norms and avoid unauthorized construction to prevent legal trouble.
