The upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar is set to emerge as one of India’s most sustainable aviation hubs, with operations anchored around a massive 82.94-acre solar park and 100% electric airside mobility. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, the airport will function on a net-zero energy model, placing it among the most environment-friendly airports in the country.

Solar Energy at the Core of Airport Operations
An official statement revealed that the solar park will have an annual generation capacity of 51,966 megawatt-hours, ensuring a major share of the airport’s energy needs is met through renewable sources. The project aligns with India’s clean energy goals and significantly reduces the airport’s carbon footprint from day one.

The airport has already earned recognition as India’s first IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Green Campus-certified airport, even before becoming operational.
Fully Electric Airside, EV Charging Across Parking Zones
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, all vehicles used for airside operations—including baggage handling, ground support, and maintenance—will be 100% electric. Multiple charging stations will be installed across the campus to support uninterrupted operations.

Additionally, 20% of the airport’s parking area will be equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, encouraging clean mobility among passengers, staff, and visitors.

YEIDA Additional CEO Shailendra Kumar Bhatia said both standard and fast EV chargers will be installed to promote wider adoption of electric vehicles.

Smart Design for Low Energy and Water Consumption
The terminal building has been specially designed to minimise energy, water, and resource consumption. Advanced building materials, energy-efficient systems, and smart layouts have been incorporated to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.

Rainwater Harvesting, Green Fuel, and Waste Management
The airport’s sustainability plan also includes:

◆Two rainwater harvesting ponds to ensure long-term water security

◆A Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) plant to fuel airport vehicles and DG sets

◆A comprehensive solid waste management system focusing on segregation, recycling, and scientific disposal
◆An environment monitoring plan has been put in place, with monthly tracking of air, water, soil, sewage, and waste parameters.

More Than an Airport: A Green Growth Engine
The Uttar Pradesh government said the Jewar airport will not only improve air connectivity but also set new benchmarks in green infrastructure, while generating employment, investment, and regional economic growth in line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of sustainable development.

The airport is being developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with Zurich Airport International AG as the concessionaire. Located about 75 km from Delhi in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, the greenfield airport is expected to be a major aviation gateway for northern India.
