In a major crackdown on poor sanitation services, authorities in Noida have imposed a penalty of ₹10.38 lakh on a private waste collection company after serious lapses in door-to-door garbage collection came to light.
The action follows a two-month monitoring exercise that revealed widespread negligence by AG Enviro Infra Projects Private Limited, the agency responsible for managing household waste collection across multiple sectors of the city.
Streets Turned Into Dumping Grounds Amid Service Breakdown
The failure of regular garbage collection quickly translated into visible chaos on the ground. With collection vehicles not arriving on time—or not arriving at all—residents were left with no option but to dump waste on roadsides, empty plots, and main streets.
As complaints piled up, several areas reported growing heaps of garbage, raising concerns about hygiene, public health, and urban management standards in one of NCR’s key cities.
Officials confirmed that inadequate deployment of vehicles and poor maintenance of existing ones were major reasons behind the disruption.
Missing Vehicles and Ignored Households Trigger Penalty
According to data tracked through GPS-enabled systems, as many as 157 garbage collection vehicles failed to operate between March 25 and March 31, despite being part of the active fleet.
At the same time, waste was not collected from over 1.29 lakh households during the same period, indicating a large-scale breakdown in service delivery.
Authorities calculated the penalty based on these lapses, imposing separate fines for non-operational vehicles and unserved households, which together amounted to Rs 10.38 lakh.
Faulty Fleet and Poor Planning Under Scrutiny
Officials also pointed out that even among the deployed vehicles, nearly 25 percent were non-functional. Despite this, the company failed to repair them or arrange backup vehicles, worsening the situation further.
The lack of contingency planning and failure to maintain basic operational standards have now put the contractor under strict watch.

Warning Issued: Contract at Risk
The Noida Authority has made it clear that continued negligence will not be tolerated. A formal notice has been issued to the company, warning that repeated violations could lead to termination of the agreement.
The administration has directed the agency to immediately improve its services, ensure proper vehicle deployment, and restore regular waste collection across all affected areas.
A Larger Urban Challenge
The incident highlights a broader issue faced by rapidly growing cities—outsourced civic services without strict accountability can lead to serious public inconvenience.
When essential services like waste collection fail, the impact is immediate and visible, affecting not just cleanliness but also public trust in urban governance.
The Rs 10.38 lakh penalty is more than just a financial action—it is a signal.
Basic civic services cannot afford inconsistency.
As Noida pushes toward becoming a modern urban hub, ensuring reliable sanitation systems will remain critical to maintaining both public health and the city’s reputation.
