With the rapid rise in vehicles and shrinking parking space, traffic pressure has become a daily challenge in Noida. In response, the Noida Authority has taken a significant step toward smart urban infrastructure by planning automated puzzle parking systems in multiple sectors of the city. This initiative is aimed at reducing roadside parking, easing congestion, and making better use of limited land.
Tender process begins for Noida’s first puzzle parking
According to officials, the tender process for Noida’s first automated puzzle parking project in Sector-63 has attracted interest from two agencies. The submitted documents are currently under scrutiny, and once the technical and final approvals are completed, work on the project is expected to begin. Authorities believe this will give new momentum to Noida’s parking management system.
More sectors identified for puzzle parking
Encouraged by the Sector-63 plan, the Noida Authority has also proposed puzzle parking facilities in Sector-124, Sector-15 (near Alka Cinema), and Sector-62. These areas experience heavy vehicle movement due to offices, commercial hubs, hospitals, and metro connectivity. Officials say these locations were selected after assessing traffic density and parking demand.
What is automated puzzle parking?
Automated puzzle parking is a modern parking system that works very differently from conventional multi-level parking. In this system, cars are parked on movable platforms that shift vertically and horizontally, much like solving a puzzle. Drivers simply park their vehicle at a designated entry point, after which the automated system places the car into an available slot and retrieves it when needed.
Faster parking with minimal human intervention
According to officials, a car can be parked or retrieved in 3 to 6 minutes using the puzzle system, compared to 10 to 15 minutes in traditional parking structures. The system requires less manpower, reduces human error, and operates through sensors and automated controls, making it both efficient and user-friendly.
Capacity planned across multiple floors
The proposed puzzle parking structures in Noida are expected to be 4 to 6 floors high. Each floor is estimated to accommodate around 25 vehicles, allowing a single unit to park 100 to 150 cars within a limited footprint. This makes the model especially suitable for space-constrained urban areas.

Why puzzle parking is crucial for Noida
Noida’s rapid urban growth has led to frequent roadside parking, which often becomes a major cause of traffic jams. Office zones and market areas are particularly affected. Puzzle parking is being seen as a practical solution that can reduce illegal parking, improve traffic flow, and enhance road safety without requiring large land parcels.
Safety ensured through sensor-based technology
Officials have stressed that safety is a key feature of the system. Sensors are installed to detect any unusual movement. If a child, animal, or object enters the parking zone, the system automatically stops to prevent accidents. Clear markings and designated boundaries are also planned to ensure controlled movement.
A step toward smarter city management
The Noida Authority believes that puzzle parking is not just a parking solution but a broader step toward smart city management. By reducing traffic congestion, improving discipline, and optimising space usage, the initiative is expected to improve daily commuting experiences for residents.
What lies ahead
Once the document verification process is completed for Sector-63, execution timelines will be finalised. Parallel technical preparations are also underway for other proposed sectors. If implemented successfully, puzzle parking could soon become a standard model for managing parking challenges across Noida.
