Residents of Beta-1 in Greater Noida have raised safety concerns after a deep pit was left open on a road following a burst water pipeline that reportedly occurred two to three months ago.
Local residents claim they had repeatedly informed the authorities about the issue, but repair work has been delayed, leaving the excavation site exposed and potentially dangerous for pedestrians.
Residents Say Complaints Were Ignored
Mahendar Singh, a resident of A Block, Beta-1, said the problem had been reported earlier to the Greater Noida Authority, but no permanent action was taken.
“About a month ago, we informed the authority about the pit. Officials visited the site, but no action was taken,” he said.
Residents say the open pit has remained unattended despite repeated complaints.
Pipeline Lies Deep Underground
Officials from the water department explained that the pipeline carries Ganga water and lies several feet below the surface, making repair work more complex.
Vinod Sharma, an official from the authority’s water department, said the excavation is necessary to access the damaged pipeline.
“The pit is around eight feet deep, but we need to dig further to reach the pipeline. Even a small amount of water quickly fills the pit,” Sharma said.

Authority Assures Repair Work
Bijender Kushwah, a manager with the Greater Noida Authority, said the excavation was carried out to repair the damaged pipeline.
“The repair work is the responsibility of the water department, and we will ensure they take the necessary action,” he said.
Safety Risk for Residents
Residents say that although no injuries have been reported yet, the open pit continues to pose a serious safety risk, especially for children, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders.
Locals have urged the authorities to complete the repair work quickly and secure the area before an accident occurs.
