In a major step toward tackling chronic traffic congestion on the Noida Expressway, the Noida Authority has announced a Rs 30-crore revamp of the Yamuna Pushta Road — a crucial alternative route connecting Kalindi Kunj to Sector 135. The long-neglected 11.5-km stretch, currently riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces, is set to be resurfaced in the coming weeks.
Key Backup Route to Get Major Upgrade
Running parallel to the expressway along the Yamuna embankment, the four-lane Pushta Road serves as a vital backup corridor, especially during peak office hours when the main expressway witnesses heavy congestion. Officials said improving this route will significantly ease pressure on the arterial link between Delhi and Greater Noida.
Approvals from the irrigation department — which oversees the embankment — have already been secured, clearing the way for repair work to begin soon.
Benefits for Local and Intra-City Traffic
Authorities believe the upgraded road will particularly benefit residents of adjoining sectors who currently rely on the expressway even for short trips due to the poor condition of alternative routes.
In addition to resurfacing, plans are underway to fix missing links on 45-metre-wide sector roads running alongside the expressway. Plugging these gaps will allow smoother movement across sectors and reduce unnecessary entry onto the already crowded main corridor.
Larger Connectivity Plans Still Stalled
The Pushta Road was once envisioned as part of a larger riverside expressway project linking Kalindi Kunj to the Yamuna Expressway at Pari Chowk. However, concerns about the structural safety of the embankment stalled the ambitious plan.
A proposal for an elevated corridor also received preliminary approval but remains stuck due to pending regulatory clearances.
Immediate Focus on Practical Solutions
Until large-scale projects materialise, officials are prioritising practical measures such as repairing existing infrastructure and improving sector road connectivity. Approximately 2.5 acres of land will be required to complete missing stretches between several sectors, which will help create a continuous diversion route during peak traffic, emergencies, or maintenance work.
