Ayushman Bharat Boosts Healthcare for Elderly: Ayushman Vay Vandana Card Now Available via Mobile App
In a major health welfare boost for India’s senior citizens, the Central government has launched a simplified digital process allowing elderly citizens aged 70 years and above to receive Rs 5 lakh in free medical cover annually through the Ayushman App.
This initiative comes under the umbrella of the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and aims to ensure financial protection and improved access to quality healthcare for India’s ageing population.
What is the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card?
The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card is a special digital health ID card under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. It provides:
Free medical treatment worth Rs 5 lakh per year per family
Coverage at empanelled public and private hospitals across India
Comprehensive healthcare access for over 55 crore Indians, especially targeting the vulnerable population.

Who Is Eligible?
To apply for the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card:
The applicant must be aged 70 or above
Must have a valid Aadhaar card
Aadhaar should be linked to a mobile number
How to Apply Through Ayushman App: Step-by-Step
1. Download the Ayushman App from Google Play Store
2. Login as beneficiary or operator
3. Enter captcha, mobile number, and mode of authentication
4. Provide beneficiary details, including Aadhaar and state
5. Consent to OTP verification and complete declaration
6. Enter mobile number and verify with OTP
7. Fill in additional details, such as category and PIN code
8. Add family members, if any
9. Submit application
10. Once e-KYC is approved, download your Ayushman Vay Vandana Card

Government’s Commitment to Elderly Welfare
The Ministry of Health posted on X:
“Senior citizens aged 70 and above can now get their Ayushman Vay Vandana Card through the Ayushman App and access Rs 5 lakh of free treatment.”
This reflects the government’s focus on universal healthcare for senior citizens, regardless of income or economic background. So far:
Over 65 lakh applications have been received
64 lakh cards have been approved
96,000 applications are pending approval
434 cards already distributed
