In a deeply disturbing case of alleged medical negligence, a woman in Greater Noida endured 18 months of unbearable pain after doctors allegedly left nearly half a metre of surgical cloth inside her abdomen during a delivery operation. The shocking truth came to light only after a second surgery, prompting a court to order an FIR against six people, including doctors and health officials.
The victim, Anshul Verma, wife of Vikas Verma and a resident of Delta-1, Greater Noida, was admitted to Bakson Hospital in Tughalpur on November 14, 2023, for childbirth. She underwent a caesarean section performed by Dr Anjana Agrawal, assisted by a medical team. Her husband alleges that gross negligence during the operation resulted in a surgical cloth being left inside her body.
Anshul was discharged two days later, but soon after returning home, she began experiencing severe abdominal pain. Initially believing it to be post-surgical discomfort, she ignored the symptoms. However, the pain intensified over time, and she began feeling a lump inside her stomach.
Over the next one and a half years, Anshul visited multiple hospitals including Yatharth Hospital, GIMS Hospital, Naveen Hospital, and Kailash Hospital, undergoing repeated scans, MRIs, and tests. Despite this, the real cause remained undetected.
The ordeal finally ended on April 22, 2025, when doctors at Kailash Hospital, led by Dr Sanchita Vishwas, performed surgery and made a horrifying discovery — a foul-smelling, pus-covered cloth nearly half a metre long lodged inside her abdomen.
Doctors were reportedly stunned by the finding, confirming that the cloth had been left behind during the original delivery surgery.
Following the revelation, Anshul and her husband approached Bakson Hospital, but allege that the hospital management attempted to suppress the case. They then filed a complaint with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Gautam Buddh Nagar, but claim that the investigation was deliberately delayed and crucial steps like forensic testing of the cloth were ignored.

With no action forthcoming, the family approached the court. Acting on the court’s directions, police registered an FIR against six individuals, including doctors, hospital staff, and health department officials.
Anshul revealed that due to complications, she has already undergone two major surgeries, required eight units of blood transfusion, and has now been told that a third surgery is not possible, severely affecting her chances of having another child.
“This negligence has destroyed my physical and mental health. The people responsible must be punished,” she said.
The case has once again raised serious concerns over patient safety, accountability, and medical oversight in private hospitals.
