In a rare and inspiring achievement, two sisters from a humble family background — Saumya Mishra and Sumegha Mishra — have cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in the same year, securing AIR 18 and AIR 253 respectively. Their outstanding success has become a proud moment not just for their family, but also for thousands of UPSC aspirants across the country.
A Teacher Father’s Dream, Fulfilled Twice
The Mishra family belongs to Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Their father, Raghavendra Kumar Mishra, has been a government school lecturer in Delhi for the past 27 years. Their mother, Renu Mishra, is a homemaker who devoted her life to her daughters’ education and discipline.
In 1997, the family moved from their village to Delhi due to the father’s posting. Despite growing up in the capital, both daughters say they always stayed connected to their village roots and the values they learned there.
Saumya: From SDM to UPSC Topper
This is not Saumya’s first achievement. She earlier worked as the SDM of Madihan and was also selected in the UPPSC in 2011. But her real dream was the Civil Services. This year, she fulfilled it spectacularly by securing All India Rank 18.
Her journey reflects years of discipline, multiple responsibilities, and an unshakeable determination to serve the country at the highest level.

Sumegha: Balancing Work, Life, and UPSC Aspirations
Sumegha, who secured AIR 253, also pursued the exam with a calm and focused approach. She credits her success to her parents, elder sister’s guidance, and a disciplined routine that kept her consistent during challenging phases.
Both sisters say that they prepared together, motivated each other, and shared the stress, which ultimately made the journey smoother.
A Story of Values, Support, and Dedication
The Mishra family’s story is a testament to what strong values, parental sacrifice, and sibling support can achieve. With limited resources but unlimited determination, the sisters proved that success in UPSC is not reserved for the privileged — it belongs to those who persevere.
Their achievement is now motivating thousands of youth in Uttar Pradesh and across India who dream of cracking the UPSC.
