In a major crackdown on job fraud, police in Noida have arrested six people for allegedly duping job seekers by promising employment on cruise ships abroad.
According to officials, the accused were operating a fraudulent call centre from a co-working space in Sector 73, where they targeted individuals looking for overseas jobs.
Police said the suspects used social media advertisements to attract victims and then demanded money by offering fake job opportunities on international cruise ships.
Social Media Ads Used to Trap Job Seekers
Explaining the modus operandi, Manisha Singh said the accused posted hiring advertisements online to lure job seekers.
Once candidates contacted them, the fraudsters promised jobs on cruise ships in foreign countries and demanded Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 as processing fees.
Victims were convinced through phone calls and false assurances that the jobs were legitimate opportunities abroad.
Call Centre Operating for Three Months
Police said the racket had been operating for nearly three months before authorities received a tip-off about suspicious activities at the Sector 73 co-working facility.
Following the information, a police team raided the location and arrested the accused involved in the operation.
According to Vipin Kumar, two of the accused were the main organisers of the fraud while the others worked as telecallers.
