Residents of Sector 9 in old Gurugram are increasingly raising concerns over deteriorating civic infrastructure, including damaged internal roads, poor sanitation, stray animals, and irregular garbage collection. With nearly 2,000 families living in the sector, locals say the infrastructure has not kept pace with the area’s growing population.
Bad Roads and Garbage Issues Trouble Residents
Developed in the late 1980s, Sector 9 is among Gurugram’s older residential localities. Over time, however, residents claim that civic facilities have deteriorated significantly.
Locals report that internal roads are broken and uneven, making daily commuting difficult. Garbage collection services are also irregular in some lanes, leading to waste accumulation and hygiene concerns.
Residents say green belts are poorly maintained, and illegal parking in narrow lanes further worsens congestion and accessibility within the sector.
Stray Animals Create Safety Concerns
Another major issue highlighted by residents is the increasing number of stray dogs and cattle roaming freely in residential lanes and markets.
According to locals, stray dogs often chase vehicles and pedestrians, creating fear among residents.
Ishaan Yadav, a resident of the sector, said children and senior citizens are the most affected.
“While not all dogs are aggressive, some suddenly start barking or chasing people, which creates panic. We read about sterilisation drives in the news, but we haven’t seen much action in our sector,” he said.
Municipal Corporation Responds
Officials from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) said efforts are underway to control the stray dog population through vaccination and sterilisation drives.
Mohit, a junior engineer with MCG, said the programme has gained momentum in March.
“Currently, the focus is on Sector 31. Under a CSR initiative, Vedanta Pvt Ltd has taken over the sterilisation and vaccination programme. The work will be carried out sector-wise, and the target is to sterilise and vaccinate around 400 stray dogs every month,” he said.
Residents Demand Immediate Civic Action
Despite assurances from authorities, residents say urgent steps are needed to repair roads, improve sanitation, and manage stray animals to ensure a safer and cleaner living environment.
Locals have urged the Municipal Corporation to prioritise Sector 9 and address long-pending civic issues before conditions worsen further.
