In a strong disciplinary action aimed at enforcing accountability within the force, Gurugram Police have suspended three traffic police personnel with immediate effect for indiscipline and negligence of duty. The action was taken following a surprise inspection that revealed serious lapses in conduct while performing mandatory traffic enforcement duties.
The officers suspended include assistant sub-inspector Suresh, who was deployed as a zonal officer at Daulatabad Chowk, assistant sub-inspector Ramreech Pal, posted at the Kapriwas Border, and assistant sub-inspector Satish, stationed at New Colony. All three suspensions will remain in effect pending the outcome of a departmental inquiry.
Failure to Follow Discipline and Duty Norms
Senior police officials stated that the zonal officers failed to maintain discipline while carrying out traffic duties, which are mandatory for all traffic police personnel. Their conduct during enforcement drives reportedly violated departmental guidelines and raised concerns about unnecessary harassment of commuters.
Commenting on the action, Gurugram Police Commissioner Dr Rajesh Mohan said that strict adherence to discipline is non-negotiable. He added that the suspension of the officers would serve as a strong warning to on-ground staff to follow traffic norms honestly and professionally.
“The ZOs were suspended with immediate effect for not being in discipline while performing their duty. This action will send a strong message among field staff to conduct traffic drives properly and not harass commuters unnecessarily,” Dr Mohan said.
Private Vehicle With Temporary Number Plate Raises Red Flag
During the inspection, officials also found that assistant sub-inspector Suresh was using a private vehicle while on duty at Daulatabad Chowk, located near the Dwarka Expressway. More concerning was the fact that the vehicle had a temporary number plate installed despite having a valid permanent registration number.
Police officials described this as a common tactic often used by traffic offenders to evade detection by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. Such behaviour by a traffic enforcement officer was termed unacceptable and a serious breach of rules.
A hefty traffic challan was issued against Suresh for failing to install a proper high-security registration plate on his private vehicle.

Departmental Inquiry and Show-Cause Notices
Officials confirmed that a formal departmental inquiry will be initiated against all three suspended officers. Show-cause notices will also be issued in the coming days, seeking written explanations for negligence of duty and misconduct during official hours.
Dr Rajesh Mohan reiterated that compliance with traffic rules and departmental orders is mandatory for every officer, irrespective of rank. “Negligence or indiscipline at any level will not be tolerated. Surprise inspections and strict action will continue to ensure accountability,” he said.
Zero Tolerance Towards Misconduct
The action underscores Gurugram Police’s zero-tolerance approach towards indiscipline within the force, especially in departments that interact directly with the public on a daily basis. Officials said the objective is to restore public trust and ensure that traffic enforcement focuses on safety and compliance rather than harassment.
The outcome of the inquiry is expected to determine further disciplinary action against the suspended officers.
