The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 750 crore for the Noida International Airport project in its latest Budget, signalling a strong push toward expanding one of the country’s most ambitious greenfield aviation hubs.
A significant portion of the allocation — Rs 700 crore — has been earmarked for land acquisition related to the third and fourth phases of the project. The remaining Rs 50 crore will be used for construction-related activities.
Focus on Future Expansion and Additional Runways
The fresh funding will primarily support land acquisition for upcoming phases that aim to expand the airport’s infrastructure, including the addition of more runways and aviation facilities.
Officials said the third and fourth phases together require over 2,000 hectares of land. A large portion of this land will be acquired from farmers across multiple villages, while the rest is already with the administration. Compensation rates have been announced, and authorities indicated that farmers have shown willingness to participate in the acquisition process.
Once fully developed, the airport is expected to have up to five runways and a significantly enhanced passenger handling capacity.
Terminal Ready, Awaiting Regulatory Clearance
Construction of the first-phase terminal and runway has already been completed. The terminal is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually in its initial phase.
Commercial operations are expected to begin after the airport receives the necessary aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The state government has earlier indicated that the project is nearing operational readiness.
Long-Term Vision: Aviation Hub for NCR
The state’s broader vision is to transform Noida International Airport into a major aviation hub serving the National Capital Region and neighbouring states. Future plans include:
◆A second runway
◆Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities
◆Aviation innovation and research centres
◆Expanded cargo operations
By the completion of later phases, the airport’s passenger handling capacity is projected to rise dramatically, strengthening its role in easing pressure on Delhi’s existing airport infrastructure.

Civil Aviation Gets Big Budget Support
The state government has allocated over Rs 2,100 crore to the civil aviation department overall, with a substantial portion dedicated to capital expenditure on airport infrastructure.
With consistent funding and phased development, Noida International Airport is set to become one of India’s largest aviation projects, playing a crucial role in regional connectivity, economic growth, and infrastructure development.
