In a major boost to forensic science and cyber policing, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the establishment of 75 new forensic units across all districts of Uttar Pradesh. The announcement came during the inauguration of a three-day International Cyber Summit in Lucknow, themed “Dimensions of Cyber Warfare, Multilateral Legal Framework, Forensics and Strategic Countermeasures.”
Strengthening Justice Through Forensic Science
Highlighting the state’s focus on evidence-based investigation, the CM said that forensic evidence has been made mandatory in all crimes punishable with seven years or more, following the introduction of new criminal laws including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in July 2024.
With the latest move, every district will now be equipped with a dedicated forensic unit and mobile forensic lab, ensuring scientific and timely evidence collection.
“The reputation of the UP Police has grown so strong that even criminals hesitate upon hearing their name,” CM Yogi said, emphasizing the role of modern forensic tools in delivering swift justice.
Cyber Policing Revolution
From just one cyber police station in 2017, the state today boasts cyber police stations in all 75 districts, supported by 1,587 cyber help desks at local police stations. This marks a sharp expansion in UP’s capacity to combat rising digital crimes.
The summit also saw the inauguration of cutting-edge facilities including the Advanced DNA Diagnostic Center, AI-Drone-Robotics Lab, and the Atal Library, further strengthening the state’s research and policing capabilities. Smart tablets were distributed to students, underlining the government’s push toward modernizing education in forensic sciences.
UPSIFS at the Forefront
Celebrating the third foundation day of the Uttar Pradesh State Forensic Science Institute (UPSIFS), the CM flagged off 75 mobile forensic vans for district police units. He expressed confidence that UPSIFS would soon become a “cornerstone for Developed India – Developed Uttar Pradesh,” symbolizing the state’s ambition to lead in forensic science and cybersecurity.
