“Yamuna Expressway Becomes Risk Zone: No Bus Stops, Commuters Forced to Climb & Cross Barricades”

The Yamuna Expressway, known for its high-speed connectivity, is now turning into a risky stretch for daily commuters due to the absence of basic public transport infrastructure.
Despite being a major corridor connecting cities and towns, the expressway lacks dedicated bus stops, service lanes, and safe access points, forcing passengers to take dangerous routes just to catch a ride.

No Bus Stops, Only Barricades
The expressway is designed with continuous high barricades, prioritising speed and safety for vehicles—but completely ignoring pedestrian access.
Ideally, infrastructure such as:
●Off-road bus bays
●Designated pickup points
●Service road connectivity
should exist along such a major route.
However, none of these facilities are available.
As a result, commuters are left with no option but to risk their safety daily.

Climbing Slopes, Jumping Barricades
Residents from nearby villages face extreme difficulties:
●They first climb a 20–25 foot slope
●Then cross 3–4 foot barricades
And wait without any fixed bus schedule
This dangerous routine has become a daily reality for people traveling for work, education, and basic needs.

Unauthorized Bus Stops Emerging
Due to lack of planning, illegal and unorganised bus pickup points have started appearing across the expressway.
Major informal stops have emerged in areas like:
●Jewar
●Tappal
●Bajna
●Vrindavan
These stops operate without safety measures, increasing accident risks significantly.

Development Stuck in Red Tape
Efforts to improve access have also faced bureaucratic hurdles.
Local initiatives, including the construction of staircases for safer access, were reportedly halted after authorities claimed jurisdiction issues and even warned of legal action.
This has left residents stranded between planning and execution gaps.

Bigger Problem: No Shuttle Connectivity
According to transport experts, the issue goes beyond infrastructure—it’s about policy failure.
Former Additional Transport Commissioner P.S. Satyarthi highlighted that:
●There is no structured shuttle service connecting villages to cities
●State-run buses are insufficient on these routes
●Private operators are restricted under current rules
A simple policy change under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 could allow private players to bridge this gap.

What Needs Immediate Action
Experts suggest:
●Launch of village-to-city shuttle services
●Creation of safe bus bays and access points
●Policy changes to allow private transport participation
●Clear coordination between authorities

Ground Reality vs Development Narrative
While the Yamuna Expressway symbolizes modern infrastructure, the ground reality tells a different story—
◆High-speed roads, but no safe way to access them
◆Massive development, but missing last-mile connectivity
Until these gaps are addressed, thousands of commuters will continue to risk their lives just to travel.
