Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a strong public warning against the growing threat of cyber crime, urging citizens to remain alert and informed. In a letter addressed to the people of Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister appealed for collective awareness to help build a cyber crime–free state.
In his message, CM Yogi made it clear that there is no legal provision called “digital arrest” under Indian law and cautioned people against falling prey to cyber fraudsters who misuse such misleading terms to intimidate victims and extort money.
‘Technology Has Made Life Easier, But Risks Have Increased’
Through his letter titled “Yogi Ki Paati”, the Chief Minister acknowledged that mobile phones, computers, and the internet have made daily life more convenient. However, he warned that these advances have also led to a sharp rise in cyber fraud.
“Cyber criminals are exploiting fear and misinformation. Awareness and alertness are the biggest weapons against them,” CM Yogi said, urging citizens to stay cautious and educate others—especially senior citizens.

No Arrests Through Video Calls or WhatsApp:
CM Yogi The Chief Minister categorically stated that police or government agencies never arrest people via video calls, WhatsApp, or social media, nor do they demand money in such a manner. He stressed that fraudsters often collect personal information from social media platforms and later use it to deceive individuals.
He advised citizens never to share personal details, bank information, or OTPs with anyone, regardless of how convincing the caller may sound.
UP’s Cyber Safety Network Strengthened
Highlighting the government’s efforts, CM Yogi noted that before 2017, Uttar Pradesh had only two cyber crime police stations. Today, all 75 districts of the state have dedicated cyber crime police stations and help desks.
In case of cyber fraud, he urged victims to immediately call the national cyber crime helpline number 1930, stating that quicker reporting significantly improves the chances of recovering lost money.
Call for Collective Responsibility
Concluding his message, CM Yogi appealed to citizens to stay vigilant and spread awareness among family members and neighbours.
“Let us work together to create a safe, secure, and cyber crime–free Uttar Pradesh,” he said.
