In a landmark push to boost rural tourism and strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s countryside economy, the Yogi Adityanath government has unveiled an ambitious Farm Stay Tourism Scheme offering investors subsidies worth up to Rs 40 crore, tax exemptions, and policy reforms. This initiative, led by the state’s Department of Tourism, aims to convert villages into vibrant tourism hubs, offering domestic and international visitors an authentic slice of rural India.
Dedicated Farm Stays for Authentic Countryside Living
Under the scheme, private players, hospitality brands, and agri-tourism entrepreneurs are invited to develop farm stay accommodations on or near agricultural land. Each unit must feature a minimum of two rentable rooms and plenty of open space to create a homely yet immersive environment. The model encourages a separation from the owner’s residence, ensuring privacy and a true guest experience.
Massive Subsidies to Attract Investors
To make the venture attractive, the government has announced capital subsidies up to Rs 40 crore. Additionally, investors will enjoy a 5% interest subsidy on bank loans of up to Rs 5 crore, capped at Rs 25 lakh per investor annually for five years.
Tax incentives are equally impressive — 100% exemption on stamp duty, land conversion fees, and development charges, drastically reducing start-up costs and creating a level playing field for small and large investors alike.
Hands-On Rural Activities for Visitors
Each farm stay must offer tourists engaging rural activities such as agriculture, dairy farming, horticulture, fisheries, and farm tours, turning ordinary vacations into immersive, learning-driven stays. This approach is expected to boost local employment, provide farmers an additional income stream, and make rural life a centerpiece of Uttar Pradesh’s tourism story.
Policy Amendments to Ease Land Leases
The government has also moved to amend the UP Revenue Code, 2006, which previously limited new leases based on an individual’s existing landholding. With this bottleneck removed, investors can now more easily access land for farm stays, accelerating project rollouts across the state.
A Win-Win Model for Villages and Investors
Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized that this initiative aligns with CM Yogi Adityanath’s Vision 2047 roadmap to build a $6 trillion economy, where tourism and rural development go hand in hand. By linking livelihoods with tourism, the government aims to generate local jobs, diversify farmer incomes, and give villages a fresh identity on India’s tourism map.
With subsidies, tax breaks, and simplified land policies, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a national leader in farm stay tourism, turning its villages into engines of growth and cultural pride.
