Kanth police station in Moradabad is setting an example for other police stations in Uttar Pradesh after finding a place in India’s top 10 best-performing police stations for the year 2020.
The police station was selected in the list of best-performing police stations by the centre after assessing its performance on different parameters.
To incentivise more effective functioning and bring healthy competition, the Home Ministry each year comes up with a list of best police stations.
Nongpok Sekmai in Manipur’s Thoubal district has been selected as the best performing police station in the country, followed by AWPS-Suramangalam in Tamil Nadu’s Salem city and Kharsang in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district, the Union Home Ministry announced on Thursday.
The selection is done in accordance with the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the directions of the Directors General of Police during the 2015 Conference in Kutch, Gujarat.
The Prime Minister had directed that parameters should be laid down for grading police stations and assessing their performance based on feedback.
This year’s survey for the best police stations was conducted under challenging circumstances by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Home Ministry in its statement said it was difficult to access police stations located in remote areas during the coronavirus pandemic due to various restrictions on movement.
The objective was to rank the top 10 police stations out of 16,671 police stations in the country through data analysis, direct observation and public feedback.
The annual ranking of police stations recognises the hard work of the police personnel, encourages police forces, and also provides feedback on many aspects of policing in the country for future guidance.
