LUCKNOW: Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has made a strategic deal by signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), based in Hyderabad on Thursday.
BDL is the country’s sole Defence Public Sector Company, producing armed forces missiles and underwater weapons. BDL announced the establishment of a manufacturing unit in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor in Jhansi as part of its diversification and expansion strategy.
In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chairman and Managing Director of BDL Commodore Siddharth Mishra signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
According to the MoU, BDL, a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, will lease 215 acres of land in Jhansi for 30 years with the option to extend the lease for an additional 90 years.
The new facility will produce propulsion systems for a variety of missiles.
BDL, a Hyderabad-based mini-ratna Category-1 company, plans to start operations at this facility in 2023.
BDL currently has three manufacturing plants: two in Telangana and one in Andhra Pradesh. In addition, the company is establishing manufacturing plants in Amravati, Maharashtra, and Ibrahimpatnam, Telangana.
The Company has collaborated with global Original Equipment Manufacturers such as Naval Group of France, Rafael Advanced Defense System Ltd of Israel, Thales of the United Kingdom, STE “SPETSTECHNOEXPORT” of Ukraine, and MBDA of France/UK on numerous missile and underwater weapon programmes.
BDL also plans to build a facility in the UP Corridor to meet the Ministry of Defence’s “Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme” testing criteria.
