In a remarkable display of determination and resilience, Niranjan Singh, born without legs, clinched the silver medal in the 65 kg sitting category at the 22nd Asian Para-Armwrestling Championship held in New Delhi. Representing India, Singh’s achievement stands as a testament to human spirit overcoming physical limitations.

Early Life: Turning Challenges into Strength

Hailing from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Niranjan Singh was born without legs. From a young age, he adapted to his condition by strengthening his upper body. Remarkably, he learned to operate a tractor using only his hands, managing the clutch, brakes, and accelerator without the use of legs. This ingenuity extended to his work as a delivery driver, showcasing his determination to lead an independent life.

Introduction to Armwrestling: A New Chapter

Singh’s journey into armwrestling began in 2021 when he met Arvind Rajan, a world champion who recognized his potential. Rajan introduced him to Coach Manish Kumar, under whose guidance Singh honed his skills at the Gwalior Armwrestling Academy. His dedication paid off when he won his first national competition in Hyderabad, followed by a bronze medal at the Asian Championship in Dubai.

The Championship: A Silver Lining

At the 22nd Asian Para-Armwrestling Championship, organized by the People’s Armwrestling Federation of India, Singh competed against athletes from 14 countries. His performance in the 65 kg sitting category earned him the silver medal, marking a significant milestone in his sporting career.

Beyond Armwrestling: A Multifaceted Athlete

Singh’s athletic pursuits are not limited to armwrestling. He has also participated in wheelchair cricket and continues to explore various sports, demonstrating his versatile talent and unwavering spirit.
