Key Benefits for Commuters
The Saheli Smart Card not only offers free travel but also modernizes public transport access, reduces cash dependency, and improves commuter safety. The government will bear the cost of free travel, while banks may levy a nominal issuance or maintenance fee.
Why It Matters
By replacing paper tickets with a smart system, Delhi moves closer to a fully digital, inclusive public transport network. The initiative also underscores the government’s commitment to women’s safety, empowerment, and sustainable mobility in the capital.
As mid-October approaches, thousands of women and transgender residents are expected to sign up for the Saheli Smart Card, transforming how Delhi travels.
