Nearly 40,000 Girls to Benefit as Delhi Govt Releases Ladli Yojana Funds on October 1

The Delhi government will disburse payments to nearly 40,000 beneficiaries under the Ladli Yojana on October 1, marking a major step in its ongoing Seva Pakhwada (service fortnight) celebrations. The payout event will be held at Talkatora Stadium, with officials from all 11 districts participating.

Why Now?
Officials have been running an intensive district-wise exercise to identify girls whose benefits lapsed due to school changes, address shifts, or non-renewal of applications. Lists of lapsed beneficiaries were compiled and circulated to schools for verification, enabling the government to restart and clear pending dues.

What is the Ladli Yojana?
Launched on January 1, 2008, the Ladli scheme aims to support the education and empowerment of girls born in Delhi through financial incentives. The assistance is provided as term deposits that accrue interest over time.

Rs11,000 for institutional births

Rs10,000 for births at home

Rs5,000 each at key education stages — Classes 1, 6, 9 and 10

The maturity amount becomes accessible once the girl turns 18 or completes Class 10. The funds can be used for higher education, vocational training, or even micro-enterprises.

Who Can Avail the Benefits?
◆Girls born in Delhi to families residing in the city for at least three years

◆Family income must not exceed ₹1 lakh per year

◆Benefits available for only two daughters per family

◆Must be enrolled in a government-recognised school (Delhi Government, MCD or NDMC)

Driving Change on the Ground
By design, the Ladli scheme addresses dropout rates, school enrolment gaps, and financial insecurity among girl children in low-income households. The October 1 payout is a sign of renewed push to ensure no eligible beneficiary is left out.
