In a world where opportunities often favor the privileged, Ganesh Baraiya from Gujarat has emerged as a shining example of grit and unstoppable determination. Standing just 3 feet tall and living with 72% locomotive disability, Ganesh fought a battle that most would fear to begin — and today, he proudly wears the white coat he dreamt of since childhood.
Ganesh’s life took a dramatic turn in 2018 when the Medical Council of India (MCI) denied him admission to MBBS simply because of his height and disability. Officials argued that his physical limitations would prevent him from performing a doctor’s duties — a judgment that would have crushed many, but not him.
Born to a humble farming family in Bhavnagar and educated at Nilkanth Vidhyapeeth, young Ganesh refused to accept a future dictated by prejudice. Supported by his principal Dr. Dalpatbhai Katariya, who even paid his legal fees, Ganesh took the battle to the Gujarat High Court. When the High Court upheld MCI’s decision, he still did not give up.
He joined a B.Sc. programme temporarily — but his heart remained with medicine.
A Supreme Court Victory That Made History
Four months after he approached the Supreme Court, the judges delivered a landmark ruling:

That judgment didn’t just change his life — it changed what disability representation in medicine could look like across India.
With the SC’s decision, Ganesh earned admission to Bhavnagar Medical College in 2019, completed his MBBS, finished his mandatory internship, and is today serving patients as a qualified doctor.
“I Want to Serve the Poor”
Despite facing judgment from patients who initially doubt him due to his height, Ganesh remains unfazed.
“People are startled at first, but soon they understand. They treat me with positivity, and I accept their initial reactions,” he said with a smile.
Ganesh dreams of working in rural India, where quality healthcare is scarce and lives can be transformed by just one dedicated doctor.
