Ahead of Republic Day 2026 celebrations, the Delhi Police has launched a citywide public outreach initiative titled ‘Eyes and Ears’, aimed at strengthening security through active citizen participation. The campaign focuses on community-based vigilance, encouraging people to promptly report any suspicious activity to the police.

The awareness drive was conducted across police stations, Metro units, and IGI Airport units, with participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, traders, and service providers.

Citizens Urged to Act as ‘Eyes and Ears’ of Police
According to Delhi Police officials, the campaign seeks to involve ordinary citizens as the first line of alert during national events. By sharing timely information, citizens can help prevent security threats and ensure a safe environment during Republic Day celebrations.
Large numbers of people attended the sessions, reflecting strong public engagement and cooperation.

RWAs, MWAs, Hotels and Vendors Included
The campaign actively involved Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), hotel owners, car dealers, street vendors, security guards, porters, and other community representatives.
During interactive sessions, RWAs were advised to:
●Install and maintain CCTV cameras
●Conduct proper tenant verification
●Monitor entry of outside vendors

MWAs were instructed to:
●Increase CCTV coverage in market areas
●Secure CCTV footage
●Share regular security inputs with local police
●Strict Verification Guidelines for Hotels and Dealers
Hotel owners were directed to strictly verify guest identities and maintain updated records. Police officials also issued clear instructions to SIM card vendors to follow Department of Telecommunications guidelines without deviation.

Second-hand car dealers were asked to:
●Verify buyers thoroughly
●Ensure timely transfer of vehicle ownership

Sensitive Sectors Put on High Alert
Parking attendants, chemical vendors, and workers in other sensitive sectors were also briefed and urged to immediately report any unusual or suspicious activity.
Police officials said such outreach campaigns play a vital role in tightening security arrangements during major national events while strengthening trust between citizens and law enforcement agencies.
