Discontent among students residing at EZ Stays Hostel in Greater Noida is steadily intensifying following the tragic death of engineering student Udit Soni. The incident has shaken the student community, with many residents now seriously considering leaving the hostel, alleging harassment, violence, and illegal extortion by the hostel management.

Students Allege Harassment and Illegal Extortion
According to students living at EZ Stays, the issues did not begin with the recent tragedy. They claim that hostel residents have long been subjected to misbehavior, physical assault, and unlawful monetary demands. Several students allege that the management routinely pressures them for money by threatening penalties over issues such as late entry, smoking, alcohol consumption, or even by allegedly recording videos to create fear and leverage.
Students say these practices created an atmosphere of constant intimidation and mental stress, making the hostel unsafe and unhealthy for academic life. Many have now decided that continuing to stay at EZ Stays is no longer an option.

Father Confirms Allegations in Police Complaint
The allegations made by students were echoed by Vijay Kumar Soni, the father of the deceased student. In his formal complaint to the police, he stated that penalties were frequently imposed on his son and money was demanded, which he had already paid on earlier occasions.
He alleged that on the night of January 23, Udit returned to the hostel around 10 pm. The hostel owner and staff allegedly demanded money for late entry, leading to an argument. According to the complaint, Udit was assaulted by the hostel owner and others, leaving him mentally distressed. Shortly after, Udit allegedly jumped from the upper floor of the hostel, resulting in his death.

Incident That Sparked Outrage
Udit Soni, an engineering student, was living at EZ Stays Hostel when the incident occurred. Following his death, angry students staged protests and vandalised parts of the hostel, expressing their outrage and grief. The incident has since become a flashpoint, triggering widespread anger among students and parents alike.
Udit’s father has named hostel owner Gaurav, Shekhar, and others in his police complaint, demanding strict action and justice for his son.

Students Ready to Leave Hostel
Deeply affected by the incident, several students say they can no longer feel safe at EZ Stays. Many are planning to shift to other accommodations in the coming days. They insist that unless strict action is taken against the hostel management, such incidents could repeat.

Calls for Investigation and Accountability
The case has raised serious questions about student safety, hostel regulations, and accountability of private hostels in education hubs like Greater Noida. Students and parents are demanding a thorough investigation, strict legal action against those responsible, and stronger monitoring of private hostels to prevent exploitation.
As the investigation continues, the EZ Stays Hostel controversy has become a grim reminder of the urgent need to safeguard students’ rights, dignity, and mental well-being.
