In a major step to tackle traffic congestion, Gurgaon traffic police have launched a citywide crackdown on illegal parking, deploying specialised tow cranes across East and West zones. The enforcement drive officially began on February 17 and is being carried out in coordination with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
Officials said the move aims to reclaim road space, reduce traffic bottlenecks, and improve commuting conditions for thousands of daily road users who face delays due to unauthorised parking.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan said the campaign was initiated after continuous monitoring of congestion-prone areas and repeated complaints from residents about vehicles parked in no-parking zones.

Immediate Towing and Hefty Penalties
Under the new enforcement plan, vehicles found parked illegally or obstructing public roads will be towed immediately.
The penalty structure includes:
Rs 1,500 for first-time offenders
Rs1,000 crane charge
Rs 500 no-parking challan
Rs 2,500 for repeat offenders, including an enhanced fine.
Officials clarified that no leniency will be shown in major traffic hotspots, especially in market areas and near commercial hubs.

Designated Enforcement Zones Identified
Traffic police have mapped out specific areas for focused action.
East Zone coverage includes:
Sector 29
Sector 44
Sector 51
Medanta area
AIT Road/Golf Course Road/IILM University region

Towed vehicles from these areas will be shifted to designated parking points such as:
Near Kingdom of Dreams (Uber Parking)
Apparel House
Women’s Police Station Sector 51
Medanta Hospital vicinity
Near AIT Chowk
West Zone coverage includes:
Sadar Bazar
Old Mehrauli Road
Sector 14 market
Sanath Road
Passport Office Road
Kanya Vishwavidyalaya area
Sector 83/Sapphire Mall

Vehicles from these locations will be moved to:
Session House Parking
Atul Kataria area
24×7 booth near Highway Atlas Chowk
Gaushala Ground parking
Near Police Station Kherki Daula

Focus on Road Discipline
Traffic officials said illegal parking not only reduces effective road width but also leads to unnecessary jams, delays emergency vehicles, and increases accident risks.
Authorities have urged residents and commercial establishments to use designated parking spaces and avoid roadside parking. The police said the drive is not temporary and enforcement will continue in the coming weeks.
With congestion becoming a growing concern in Gurgaon’s commercial and residential hubs, officials believe the systematic towing initiative will improve traffic flow and restore order on key roads.
