A woman sustained injuries after a lift in a residential building in Greater Noida allegedly went into free fall from the 13th floor and stopped abruptly at the 8th floor. The sudden malfunction triggered panic among residents and raised fresh concerns over elevator safety in high-rise societies.
According to residents, the woman had entered the lift from the 13th floor when the elevator suddenly malfunctioned and dropped several floors before coming to a halt at the 8th floor. The abrupt stop caused her to lose balance and injure her leg.
Victim Suffers Leg Injury, Receives Medical Attention
Residents immediately rushed to help after hearing the loud jerk and disturbance. The injured woman was taken for medical examination, where doctors confirmed a leg injury. She is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be stable.
Society members claimed that the lift’s sudden drop caused significant shock and fear among those present. Several residents said the incident could have turned more serious if multiple passengers had been inside the elevator at the time.
Residents Raise Questions Over Maintenance
Following the incident, residents have questioned the quality of lift maintenance and regular safety checks in the society. Many alleged that lift-related complaints had been raised earlier but were not adequately addressed.
“This is not the first time that lift malfunction complaints have surfaced. Regular inspection and strict monitoring are needed to prevent such incidents,” said a resident.
High-rise safety has become a recurring concern in parts of NCR, where multiple lift-related incidents have been reported in recent years.

Demand for Strict Safety Audit
Residents are now demanding an immediate technical audit of all lifts in the building to ensure passenger safety. They have urged the maintenance agency and authorities to conduct thorough inspections, install proper safety mechanisms, and ensure compliance with elevator safety standards.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of routine maintenance, emergency response systems, and adherence to safety protocols in rapidly growing high-rise residential complexes in Greater Noida.
