‘No More Assurances’: Greater Noida West Residents Plan Mega Metro Protest in Delhi

Greater Noida West is gearing up for a large-scale peaceful demonstration as thousands of residents prepare to gather at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on March 15, 2026, demanding immediate approval of long-pending metro connectivity to the region. The protest is being led by NEFOWA (Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association), which has called upon residents from housing societies, villages, and sectors to unite for the cause.
With an estimated population exceeding five lakh, Greater Noida West has transformed into one of the fastest-growing residential hubs in NCR. However, despite rapid urban expansion and increasing density, the region continues to remain without direct metro access — a gap residents say has severely impacted daily life.

Daily Commute Becoming a Burden
Residents say traffic congestion has reached alarming levels. Thousands commute daily to Noida, Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram for work, often spending two to three hours in traffic during peak hours. The absence of a metro link has resulted in rising fuel costs, mental stress, and reduced productivity.
“Lakhs of people are suffering daily due to the absence of metro connectivity. Time, fuel, and health are being severely impacted,” residents stated while announcing the protest.
Many argue that metro projects have been approved in areas with lower population density, while Greater Noida West — one of NCR’s most populated residential clusters — continues to face repeated delays.

Metro File Still Pending at Central Level
According to NEFOWA Foundation president Abhishek Kumar, the Uttar Pradesh government had approved the metro proposal before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and forwarded it to the central government. However, progress has stalled since then.
He claimed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been revised multiple times and the proposed route has been altered at least three times. “The file is still pending at the central level. Continuous delays have left residents frustrated. We have only received assurances, not approvals,” Kumar said.
Residents also allege that the metro proposal remains stuck despite multiple representations and meetings with officials and public representatives.

March 15 Protest to Seek Urgent Approval
Organisers say the March 15 protest is aimed at drawing national attention and urging swift clearance of the metro expansion project. Thousands are expected to participate in what is being described as one of the largest civic mobilisations from Greater Noida West in recent years.
Deepankar Kumar, another resident representative, said the demonstration could prove decisive. “We hope that after this protest, the metro project will receive urgent consideration and final approval,” he said.
As Greater Noida West continues to expand with new housing societies and commercial developments, residents maintain that metro connectivity is no longer optional — it is essential for sustainable urban mobility.
With mounting public pressure and a large turnout expected at Jantar Mantar, March 15 may become a turning point in the region’s long-running metro demand.
