After Years of Demand, Pedestrian Bridge Project Finally Moves Forward on Golf Course Road

Gurgaon is set to witness a major improvement in pedestrian safety as work on a second foot overbridge (FOB) along the busy Golf Course Road is expected to begin within the next month. The new structure will come up near La Lagune, a stretch identified as a high-risk accident zone due to heavy traffic and frequent road crossings by residents and office-goers.
Officials said the design has already been finalised and the contractor appointed, marking the transition from planning to execution. The project will be carried out by the DLF Foundation under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and is expected to take about a year to complete.

A Critical Need for Safe Crossing
The La Lagune stretch sees continuous high-speed vehicular movement throughout the day. With no designated pedestrian crossing, residents often have no option but to navigate multiple lanes of fast traffic, making even short trips risky.
Local residents say the absence of safe crossing infrastructure forces many people to use cars for distances that could otherwise be walked. The situation is especially challenging for senior citizens, domestic staff, and schoolchildren who cross the road daily.
The location was not part of the original proposal, which had identified a site near the Times Centre. However, authorities revised the plan after assessing accident data and pedestrian movement patterns.

Features and Design
The upcoming footbridge will follow modern accessibility standards and include:
◆Staircases for quick access
◆Elevators for elderly and differently-abled users
◆Proper lighting for night safety
◆Wide walkway for heavy pedestrian flow
Officials believe these features will encourage more people to use the bridge instead of crossing at grade level.

Part of a Larger Safety Push
The new FOB will be the second on Golf Course Road. The first bridge at Chakkarpur, opened in November 2024, significantly improved pedestrian movement and recorded more than 3.4 lakh users within a year.
Authorities had originally proposed five footbridges along the corridor, but some projects faced opposition from residents over location concerns. Eventually, approval was granted for a reduced number of structures.

A Step Toward Safer Urban Mobility
Urban planners say the project reflects a growing shift toward pedestrian-friendly infrastructure in rapidly expanding cities like Gurgaon. With increasing traffic volumes and dense residential clusters along Golf Course Road, safe walking infrastructure has become essential rather than optional.
Once completed, the new foot overbridge is expected to reduce accidents, improve mobility, and provide long-awaited relief to thousands who use this corridor daily.
For residents, it’s more than just a bridge — it’s a safer way to cross one of the city’s busiest roads.
