11-Hour Blackout in Mywoods as Builder Fails to Clear Electricity Bills

In a major disruption, electricity supply to Mahagun Mywoods was cut for nearly 11 hours after unpaid dues of around ₹72 lakh, forcing thousands of residents to depend on diesel generators.
The power supply was disconnected by Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) at 9 AM and restored only by 8 PM after partial payments were made.

Over 15,000 Residents Affected
The housing complex includes:
●31 towers with about 6,100 flats
●Around 4,800 occupied units
●More than 15,000 residents impacted
Since the project is still under the builder’s control and no Apartment Owners Association (AOA) is formed yet, residents had no direct control over electricity payments.

Why Was Power Cut?
Officials said repeated notices were ignored before action was taken.
Total bill generated: Rs 84.33 lakh (Feb 18)
Due date: Feb 28
Disconnection deadline: March 15
Despite partial payments of around Rs 13 lakh, over Rs 71 lakh remained unpaid, leading to the disconnection.

Life on Generators: High Cost, Low Reliability
During the outage, the society ran entirely on diesel generators, causing major inconvenience:
●Frequent MCB tripping due to high load
●Lift disruptions and safety concerns
●Increased electricity costs for residents
●Appliances functioning inconsistently
Residents expressed frustration, saying they were paying regularly but suffering due to the builder’s default.

Power Restored After Partial Payment
After the disconnection:
●Around Rs 35 lakh paid in the afternoon
●Additional Rs 15 lakh cleared by evening
●Total Rs 50 lakh paid, after which supply resumed
The remaining dues are expected to be cleared soon, officials said.

Not the First Time
NPCL confirmed that this was not an isolated incident.
Power to the same society had been cut earlier:
November 14 & 21 (2025)
December 15 (2025)
Similar action was also taken in other societies like Himalaya Pride over pending dues.

Bigger Issue: Single-Point Connection System
The case highlights a recurring issue in many Noida societies:
●Builder holds single-point electricity connection
●Residents pay bills to builder
●Builder pays discom
Any delay at the builder level results in entire society suffering, even if residents have paid on time.
