NIPUN Mission Faces Reality Check: Majority of Noida Schools Yet to Meet Targets

A concerning trend has emerged in the education landscape of Noida, where only 29% of schools have achieved NIPUN status, highlighting gaps in foundational literacy and numeracy among primary students.
The findings come under the NIPUN Bharat Mission, a flagship initiative aimed at ensuring that all children acquire basic reading and mathematics skills by Grade 3 under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Ghaziabad Shows Declining Trend
The situation appears more worrying in Ghaziabad, where reports indicate a decline in foundational learning progress.
While some gains had been recorded earlier, maintaining consistency has emerged as a major challenge, especially in densely populated urban areas.

Why Schools Are Falling Behind
Education experts point to several key reasons behind the slow progress:
●Uneven teaching quality across schools
●Lack of consistent monitoring and evaluation
●Limited classroom-level academic support
●Challenges in translating policy into ground-level implementation
These factors are affecting the ability of schools to meet NIPUN benchmarks effectively.

Policy vs Reality: The Ground Challenge
Although government initiatives have laid a strong foundation, the gap between policy intent and classroom execution remains significant.
The NIPUN mission envisions universal foundational learning, but current data suggests that many schools are still struggling to reach basic standards, especially in early grades.
Experts stress that without strong foundational skills:
●Students face difficulty in higher classes
●Learning gaps widen over time
●Overall academic performance declines
●Need for Urgent Reforms & Support
To bridge the gap, experts recommend:
●Strengthening teacher training programmes
●Improving learning assessment systems
●Regular tracking of student progress
●Providing targeted academic support to weaker schools
There is also a growing call for greater accountability and on-ground monitoring to ensure that policies translate into measurable outcomes.

What is NIPUN Bharat?
The NIPUN Bharat Mission focuses on ensuring that every child in India achieves:
●Basic reading with understanding
●Foundational numeracy skills
by the end of Grade 3, forming the backbone of future learning.

The Road Ahead

The current data serves as a wake-up call for policymakers and educators. While the framework exists, implementation speed and quality need urgent improvement to ensure that every child gets a strong academic start.
Without timely intervention, the gap in foundational learning could have long-term consequences for the education system in the NCR region.
