Patna The Bihar Special Task Force (STF) has arrested an accused from Vaishali district in connection with an alleged fraud in which students were reportedly cheated of around ₹46 lakh on the promise of securing government jobs. A joint team of the Bihar STF, Vaishali Police and Patna Police arrested Rajkishore Shah alias Raghuvendra Kumar, a resident of Jahangirpur Salkhanni village, from the Mahua area on Sunday night. Police also recovered a mobile phone from his possession.
According to police, the arrest was made during the investigation into a case registered at Danapur police station. The case was registered on May 19 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police alleged that a gang promised students jobs in the Army, Railways, Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and other government departments and subsequently collected money from them in different stages.
Investigators received information about the alleged gang’s activities on October 3. The Bihar STF was alerted by Army Military Intelligence in Danapur about the suspected network. Following the input, police began examining the activities and contacts of people allegedly linked to the group. During the investigation, Rajkishore’s alleged involvement surfaced, following which his location was traced and he was arrested.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that the alleged gang collected around ₹46 lakh from students on the promise of arranging government jobs. Investigators are questioning Rajkishore to determine where the allegedly defrauded money was transferred and identify other people involved in the network. His mobile phone and other possible contacts are also being examined as part of the investigation.
The investigation has also revealed that two fraud-related cases are registered against Rajkishore at police stations in Patna and Vaishali districts. Police are examining his previous cases as well as the wider network allegedly associated with the group. Investigators said questioning the accused could provide further leads about the roles of other suspects.
Police said raids are being conducted at different locations to arrest other alleged members of the gang. Investigators are also trying to determine how many students were allegedly approached with promises of government employment and the total amount of money collected from them.
According to police, the alleged fraud involved targeting students preparing for government jobs and promising them appointments in the Army, Railways and other government departments in exchange for money. Investigators are examining the alleged network, possible intermediaries and financial transactions to establish how the operation was conducted.
With Rajkishore’s arrest, police are now working to identify and apprehend other suspects allegedly involved in the network. The investigation is continuing, and further arrests are expected based on evidence gathered during the probe.
