Agra: Cybercriminals are finding new ways to breach bank accounts even when people remain alert to suspicious calls. In a shocking case reported in Agra, an 80-year-old lawyer lost ₹22.88 lakh despite suspecting a fraudulent call, disconnecting it immediately and visiting his bank to secure his savings in fixed deposits (FDs). New Delhi Cancer medicines could become significantly more affordable after the central government decided to cap trade margins on all non-scheduled drugs used in cancer treatment at 30% of the maximum retail price (MRP). The move could reduce the prices of some cancer medicines by up to 70%, offering substantial relief to patients facing high treatment costs. New Delhi The Supreme Court has taken a firm stance against the alleged practice of pharmaceutical companies offering expensive gifts, foreign trips and other freebies to doctors to encourage them to prescribe branded medicines. A bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta has directed the Central Government to constitute a special committee to examine the issue. Ranchi The Jharkhand High Court has expressed strong displeasure over the state government’s failure to complete recruitment for long-vacant posts in the state’s jails. The court observed that the government had already been granted several extensions to complete the appointments, but instead of finalising the recruitment process, it continued to seek more time. Lucknow The same company, the same brand and the same medicine, but different maximum retail prices (MRPs) at different hospitals. A probe by the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has found significant variations in medicine prices. The department studied data collected from pharmacies of 214 hospitals across the state and found differences in the MRP of 167 medicines. Several of these included expensive drugs used in the treatment of serious diseases. The largest variation was found in Pfizer’s inotuzumab ozogamicin 1 mg (Besponsa).
