Anthropic Builds ₹11.6 Lakh Crore Reserve Surpassing Leading US Tech Giants

Artificial intelligence developer Anthropic has built a liquid cash reserve surpassing almost every major non-bank enterprise in the United States, highlighting the immense capital flowing into generative intelligence. According to a registration statement filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission ahead of a planned initial public offering, the less than six-year-old firm held ₹9.89 lakh crore in cash and cash equivalents, supplemented by ₹1.70 lakh crore in short-term investments, as of June 30. At an illustrative exchange rate of ₹88 to the dollar, its aggregate liquid balance stood at approximately ₹11.59 lakh crore. Financial market data shows that Anthropic’s liquid holdings outstripped those of every non-bank US firm except Berkshire Hathaway and Alphabet, eclipsing the individual reserves of established technology giants including Amazon, SpaceX, Meta, and Microsoft, while surpassing the combined liquid assets of Apple and Nvidia.

Unprecedented Fundraising Drives Balance Sheet Growth

Anthropic’s massive liquidity stems from extraordinary support across private markets, where the company has raised approximately ₹12.41 lakh crore in aggregate private financing since its founding. These financial resources have enabled the developer to expand its frontier artificial intelligence models, scale specialized technical operations, and build commercial computing infrastructure. Potential public market proceeds could lift these figures substantially higher. Speculation surrounding the planned initial public offering suggests Anthropic could raise upwards of ₹8.80 lakh crore, potentially pushing total liquid holdings beyond ₹20.24 lakh crore.

The regulatory filing clarifies, however, that the ultimate capital infusion remains undetermined. The total volume of the issue has not been declared, and existing shareholders intend to sell equity through the transaction, meaning that net proceeds will not flow entirely into corporate coffers. Furthermore, corporate finance specialists observe that having large reserves does not necessarily guarantee complete insulation from future funding needs. Developing next-generation artificial intelligence models requires immense continuous expenditure, meaning the company will still need to generate sustainable operational profits or return to capital markets as activities expand.

Future Computing Commitments Exceed ₹51.6 Lakh Crore

Operating expenses reported for the first six months illustrate the capital-intensive reality of advanced artificial intelligence engineering. Anthropic recorded ₹78,760 crore in computing and infrastructure expenditures during the first half of the year. Company disclosures note that the firm routinely secures computing capacity 12 to 18 months in advance of operational deployment, with costs accounted for only when contracted hardware becomes active. Consequently, midyear earnings statements capture merely an opening slice of larger contractual commitments running in the background.

By the end of June, the company carried estimated future undiscounted lease liabilities of approximately ₹28.28 lakh crore alongside minimum guaranteed commitments valued at nearly ₹23.37 lakh crore. Taken together, these future contractual obligations exceeded ₹51.66 lakh crore, spanning periods ranging from 12 months to 20 years. The figures reflect the high baseline costs that artificial intelligence developers must accept to guarantee specialized chips and server infrastructure from third-party technology vendors.

Additional Infrastructure Deals Expand Future Financial Exposure

The company expanded its commitments further after the June 30 reporting date. Anthropic entered into new agreements and updated existing procurement contracts, taking on approximately ₹21.56 lakh crore in additional minimum future payment commitments. Although the enterprise has yet to issue an updated consolidated balance of all future obligations, the scale of these guarantees remains critical to understanding its financial outlook.

The disclosures spotlight the high-stakes economics of the artificial intelligence boom, where companies must pledge vast resources long before related commercial revenues materialize. Massive cash reserves provide vital liquidity buffers, yet they cannot eliminate contractual risks associated with multi-decade computing leases. While a successful stock market debut will strengthen Anthropic’s balance sheet, its long-term financial viability will ultimately depend on translating expensive compute power into profitable commercial operations.
