Ghaziabad is set to witness a major boost in its sporting and infrastructure landscape as the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has given its approval to the rough layout plan of the proposed international cricket stadium. The green signal marks a significant breakthrough for a project that has remained stalled for more than a decade.
The stadium, proposed by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), will be developed in Raj Nagar Extension’s Morti area on nearly 31–32 acres of land under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Once completed, the venue is expected to have a seating capacity of around 55,000 spectators, with provisions to expand in the future.

Key Approval Clears Long-Pending Roadblocks
According to officials, the GDA has agreed in principle to the rough draft submitted by UPCA. A crucial meeting was held at the GDA auditorium, attended by representatives from planning, engineering, and land acquisition departments. UPCA’s stadium coordinator, Rakesh Mishra, presented the preliminary design, which received a positive response from the planning wing.
With this approval, UPCA will now submit a formal application for map sanction. Another round of discussions between GDA and UPCA is expected within the next 10 days, after which the final map will be uploaded online for swift approval, ensuring the project proceeds without objections.

Rs 450 Crore Project with World-Class Facilities
The total construction cost of the stadium is estimated at Rs 450 crore, while UPCA has already acquired the land at a cost of nearly Rs 70 crore. The stadium complex will also include parking facilities for over 2,500 vehicles, ensuring smooth crowd management during high-profile matches.

To prevent traffic congestion in surrounding areas, a dedicated traffic management plan will be implemented, officials said.

A Project Revived After Years of Delay

First proposed in 2014, the Ghaziabad international cricket stadium project faced prolonged delays due to disputes over Floor Area Ratio (FAR) and land-use regulations. However, with the implementation of new building bylaws, these issues have now been resolved, paving the way for fresh momentum.

GDA and UPCA are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon. Under the new framework, GDA may offer concessions on land conversion charges and map approval fees, providing significant relief to the project.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to transform Ghaziabad into a major sporting hub in NCR, attracting international matches, boosting local employment, and strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s presence on India’s cricketing map.
