In a major relief for daily commuters, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is preparing to expand its metro network with a new corridor from Botanical Garden to Noida Sector-142, a move set to significantly improve connectivity across the region.

The proposed extension, part of the Aqua Line, has received a positive response from the Public Investment Board (PIB) and is expected to get final approval within a week. If cleared, construction is likely to begin by February–March, marking another milestone in Noida’s rapidly evolving urban transport infrastructure.

Key Details of the Project
The new metro corridor will span 11.56 kilometres and will be fully elevated. It will feature eight stations, including major locations such as Sector-44, Sector-97, Sector-105, Sector-108, Sector-93, and Panchsheel Balak Inter College, before terminating at Sector-142.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 2,254.35 crore and is expected to serve 1 to 1.25 lakh passengers daily, easing road congestion and offering a faster, more sustainable commuting option for office-goers and residents.

Addressing Viability and Growth
During the PIB review, officials raised questions about passenger demand and the need for expanding the existing line. NMRC presented detailed ridership data and long-term urban growth projections, highlighting the rising demand for reliable public transport in Noida’s commercial and residential hubs.

Design work for the corridor is already underway, and the selection process for consultants has been completed. Once final approval is granted, NMRC will move swiftly into the tendering phase.

Part of a Larger Connectivity Push
Alongside this extension, the Centre has also approved the Greater Noida Depot Station to Boraki extension, further strengthening metro connectivity across the region. These developments align with Noida’s broader goal of reducing traffic congestion, cutting travel time, and promoting eco-friendly mobility.

What This Means for Commuters
Once operational, the new corridor will offer:
◆Faster access to key office districts
◆Reduced dependence on private vehicles
◆Better last-mile connectivity
◆A smoother daily commute for thousands

With work expected to begin soon, the Botanical Garden–Sector-142 metro extension promises to transform urban travel in Noida and surrounding areas.
