Big Boost for Women’s Safety: Lucknow Police Introduce Exclusive CUG Numbers Citywide

In a significant step to strengthen women’s safety and ensure faster police access, the Lucknow Commissionerate Police have launched exclusive CUG (Closed User Group) mobile numbers for women at all police stations across the city. The initiative allows women to report complaints 24×7, without the need to visit a police station in person.

Under this system, Mission Shakti centres at each police station have been allotted a dedicated mobile number, enabling women to directly connect with trained police officers. Authorities have assured that the identity and address of complainants will remain strictly confidential, encouraging more women to seek help without fear or hesitation.

53 Police Stations, 53 Dedicated Helplines
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Bablu Kumar said that 53 CUG numbers—one for each police station under the Lucknow Commissionerate—are now operational round the clock.

“Every complaint received on these numbers will be taken seriously. Depending on the urgency and nature of the complaint, immediate police action will be initiated,” he said.

The move is aimed at reducing delays and ensuring direct communication between women and responsible officers, eliminating the need to navigate multiple channels.

What Complaints Can Be Reported?

Women can use these dedicated numbers to report a wide range of issues, including:

●Sexual harassment and molestation

●Domestic violence

●Stalking, threats, and intimidation

●Cybercrime and online blackmail

●Workplace harassment

●Any situation involving fear, coercion, or insecurity

Police officials said that upon receiving a complaint, preliminary verification will begin immediately, and women police personnel will be deployed wherever required to ensure safety and support.

Integrated with 1090 and 112 for Faster Response
To strengthen the emergency response system, Mission Shakti centres have been integrated with 1090 Women’s Helpline and the 112 emergency service. This ensures that complaints received through any platform are connected to a unified response mechanism.

“Whether a woman calls 1090, 112, the UP Cop App, or the local police station’s CUG number, her complaint will reach us without delay,” JCP Bablu Kumar said.

UP Cop App Promoted for Digital Complaints

The Lucknow Police have also encouraged women to use the UP Cop App, which allows users to:

●File complaints online

●Share live location

●Track complaint status in real time

Officials believe that the combination of digital tools and dedicated helpline numbers creates a strong, accessible support system for women in distress.

Boosting Trust and Reporting
Senior officers said the initiative is expected to increase reporting of crimes that often remain hidden due to fear, social pressure, or lack of access to immediate help.

“This direct communication system will not only build trust but also help uncover cases of harassment and abuse that otherwise go unreported,” an official said.

The move is being widely seen as a major administrative reform focused on delivering quick, confidential, and reliable police assistance, reinforcing Lucknow’s commitment to women’s safety at the grassroots level.
