As the national capital prepares to welcome New Year 2026, the Delhi Traffic Police has rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan to handle the massive rush expected on New Year’s Eve, especially around Connaught Place and India Gate.
With thousands of people expected to gather in central Delhi to celebrate the arrival of the new year, authorities have imposed special traffic restrictions, road diversions, and parking regulations to ensure public safety and smooth movement.
Traffic Restrictions at Connaught Place
According to officials, no vehicle will be allowed to move towards Connaught Place after 7:00 PM on December 31, 2025, except vehicles with valid passes. The restriction will remain in place until the conclusion of New Year celebrations.
Vehicular movement will be stopped beyond several key points, including:
●Mandi House Roundabout
●Bengali Market Roundabout
●Ranjit Singh Flyover
●Patel Chowk
●Gole Market
●Windsor Place
●Kasturba Gandhi Road–Ferozeshah Road crossing
Entry into the inner, middle, and outer circles of Connaught Place will be completely restricted for both private and public transport.
Parking Arrangements for Visitors
To accommodate visitors, designated parking facilities have been arranged at multiple locations around central Delhi, including:
●Kali Bari Marg and Pt. Pant Marg near Gole Dak Khana
●Copernicus Marg near Mandi House
●Rakab Ganj Road near Patel Chowk
●DDU Marg and Press Road near Minto Road
●Panchkuian Road and R.K. Ashram Marg
Authorities clarified that parking near Connaught Place will be limited and allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed and prosecuted.

Access to New Delhi Railway Station
Special routes have been suggested for passengers heading to New Delhi Railway Station, particularly from South Delhi. Entry from Chelmsford Road will remain closed, and commuters are advised to use alternative routes via Ajmeri Gate, Paharganj, or JL Nehru Marg. Old Delhi Railway Station will not be affected.
India Gate and Central Delhi Restrictions
Heavy crowd movement is also expected at India Gate, prompting possible vehicle diversions from key junctions such as:
●Janpath
●Rajpath
●C-Hexagon
●Sunheri Masjid Roundabout
●Mathura Road and Bhairon Road
Visitors have been strongly advised to use public transport, as parking near India Gate will be extremely limited.

Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to commuters to:
Avoid central Delhi routes where possible
Use Metro and public transport
Plan travel to airports, railway stations, and ISBTs well in advance
