‘Cheated and Ignored’: IndiGo Customers Slam Airline Over Refund Cuts After Cancellations

Lucknow is witnessing rising anger among IndiGo passengers as repeated flight cancellations and steep refund deductions have sparked widespread complaints across social media. Many travellers claim that despite cancellations being initiated by the airline, they received only a small portion of the fare they originally paid—leaving them frustrated, confused, and financially burdened.

Frequent Cancellations Fuel Passenger Outrage
Over the past few weeks, several IndiGo flights operating from Lucknow have been cancelled abruptly, forcing passengers to wait long hours before eventually learning that their flights would not operate. Many travellers say that the airline failed to offer proper communication, timely updates, or clear explanations.

Passengers have shared screenshots and testimonies showing large deductions from refunds. Several individuals claimed that their tickets, costing thousands of rupees, were reimbursed with barely a few hundred rupees.

Cases Reveal Deepening Refund Crisis
Satish Singh, who had booked a Bengaluru–Varanasi flight for Rs 6,000, said he waited nearly 16 hours for a rescheduled departure. When the flight was eventually cancelled, he received only Rs 400 back.
Another traveller, Amardeep Singh Bhatia, said his Chandigarh-bound IndiGo ticket worth Rs 16,777 saw a deduction of Rs 4,536 after cancellation. IndiGo reportedly informed him that the full payment had already been released to the travel agency—leaving him to struggle for the remaining amount on his own.

A Mumbai–Delhi passenger who was routed via Lucknow said his Mumbai–Lucknow flight was cancelled, derailing his entire travel plan. His refund reflected a deduction of Rs 2,500.

Similarly, A. Mishra, who booked the 6E-5088 Mumbai–Lucknow flight for December 3, alleged a deduction of Rs 3,200 even though the cancellation was not voluntary.

Refunds Delayed, Responses Missing
Passengers say the biggest challenge isn’t just the deduction—it is the silence.
Pune–Lucknow flyer Rajesh Mishra, who booked via an online portal, said he has contacted the airline numerous times but has not received a resolution.

Dr. Antariksh Srivastava, whose Dehradun–Lucknow flight was cancelled, has been emailing the airline for three days with no response. Another passenger, Shubham, was told that his Bhubaneswar–Lucknow refund may take up to 15 days, further adding to the delay concerns.

Former Scientist Among Those Affected
Former CDRI scientist Pradeep Kumar Srivastava also reported facing similar issues after IndiGo cancelled his Lucknow–Chandigarh flight 6E-6752 without prior notice. Several others, including Indrajit Yadav, say their refunds have not been credited even after repeated follow-ups.

Rising Demand for Transparency and Accountability
The growing number of complaints raises serious questions about the airline’s refund process, transparency, and customer handling. Many passengers argue that airline-initiated cancellations should not lead to deductions under any circumstance—and the current practices violate basic consumer rights.

As the backlash intensifies online, travellers are urging the Ministry of Civil Aviation and DGCA to step in, ensure accountability, and mandate prompt, full refunds where applicable.

With complaints swelling each day, IndiGo faces increasing scrutiny over its customer service, refund timelines, and adherence to passenger rights.
